QLTC-8C High Performance Programmable Vehicle Counter
and Classificator
The programmable vehicle counter and classificator QLTC-8C
uses the proven technology of detecting vehicles with inductive
loops mounted into the road
surface.
High count accuracy (99,9%) and high vehicle
class matching (97%) make this device suitable for many ITS applications
where real traffic information is required.
QLTC-8C device measures all relevant traffic
parameters such as volume, 10+1 vehicle classes, speed, loop occupancy,
gap time, 16 speed bins and temperature.
Integrated GSM/GPRS module enables remote data
transfer, remote traffic monitoring and remote device configuration.
Device has built in Traffic Agent System® to calculate six traffic
conditions (Normal traffic
, Increasing traffic, Dense
traffic, Heavy traffic, Traffic
congestion, No traffic) which
can be published online in real time.
Distance between inductive loop and device placement
can be increased up to 150 m with optional loop driver module.
As the
vehicle is passing over the inductive loop, the induction is changed
due to the presence of the metal/steel vehicle basis. Each type
of vehicle, whether it is a passenger car, lorry or truck, will
cause different induction changes in the time or characteristic
signal. The captured signal is evaluated in real time by advanced
signal processing technics and algorithms.
Since there is a lot of similarity between the signals caused by
vehicles of the same type or class, it is possible to reliably classify
the type of vehicle passing the loops.
The vehicle classification is
not performed on the basis of the vehicle length, but rather on
the basis of the vehicle's inductive footprint.
This method is more accurate when vehicles
of the same length, but different classes, have to be recognized
and classified. This technology on average allows 97%
accuracy in vehicle class matching for vehicle speeds from 5
km/h up to 250
km/h and more.
Advanced technology with state of the art software enables devices
to operate robustly and practically error-free over the entire speed
range and in all environmental conditions, thus providing the user
with maximum reliability, safety and accurate traffic data at minimum
maintenance costs.
The built in operating algorithm will enable the device to work
robustly. It will cover all traffic conditions such as stop &
go traffic, standing or very slow queues, traffic with very extensive
speed variations etc. with no need for fine tuning the device.
It's all done automatically, simple as plug & play!
The sophisticated auto diagnostic system with intelligent autorecovering
functions will provide the necessary steps and information (such
as date and time) if malfunctions occur. The system will recover
automatically if the cause of the malfunction disappears.
Device can be equipped with the GSM/GPRS module for remote data
transfer operation and remote device configuration. Also there is
possibility to post the SMS
message with error description to the service personnel.
Device has integrated solar cell charger - plug
& play function for solar cell power supply option.
Operating modes
QLTC-8C has four independent measuring channels.
Normally, two channels or loops are used per single lane for vehicle classification.
The device uses 1GB SD card for data storage.
The capacity of the memory allows the device to capture traffic data for
1 year. After
that data are automatically re-written.
Captured data can be stored at the intervals selected
by the user, or/and separately for each passing vehicle (per vehicle recorded).
If data is collected in intervals, the following data is stored for both
lanes independently:
Date
and time of interval
Number
of vehicles per class (10+1 class),
Average
speed per class A1,
Number
of vehicles per speed range,
Maximum,
minimum and average travelling speed per lane,
Loop occupany
measured in promils,
Average
gap time between vehicles,
Temperature
inside cabinet
If data is collected
separately for each passing vehicle (per vehicle recorded), the following
information will be stored:
Date
and time,
Lane
(heading),
Daily
vehicle index on lane,
Vehicle
class,
Vehicle
speed.
Vehicle classes
The following vehicle classes are recognized by the QLTC-8C/10C
devices. Classification scheme is compliant with the EEC 1108/70 EU directive.

Data handling Collected data is transferred from the device to a
portable PC computer
over a standard USB
port using the WinQLTC software. The same software is also used for
data handling, processing, reporting, graphing, table generation and other
customer specific options.
Communication
When multiple devices are needed at a location, for example at a toll
station, up to 16 QLTC-8C
devices can be connected to a serial bus and to a desktop PC,
thereby allowing the user to monitor the traffic on-line from a single
point.
Additionally, a GSM/GPRS module can be integrated into device to connect
one or more devices over a public GSM900/1800
network, thereby allowing the user to monitor and collect the traffic
data remotely. Traffic data and system information can be retrieved remotely,
manual using a PC
computer and a GSM
modem or automatically with a QLTCnet
Server .
When a device is equiped by GSM/GPRS module, all malfunctions such as
power fail, loop errors, etc. are automatically reported on-line to the
service personnel by using the SMS
services.
Controlling
The QLTC-8C offers
outputs, with signals for direct control of ramps and/or other traffic
controlling and/or signalling devices. Several signals i.e. loop status,
speed limit violation, low speed or queue detection, are available via
an interface and can be used for controlling the automated traffic signs.
Construction
The QLTC-8C device
is designed as a small and compact device in the rigid housing. The device
is electronically protected against against voltage surges and lightning
strikes, thus protecting the hardware from the electrical shocks. Since
all the components are built into the single housing, the corrosion effects
on the connectors are ruled out. The loops are connected to the device
via a spring-like push lock connector.
Additionally, the device can be equiped by POWER-BAT unit that allows
for minimum 7 days
of autonomous operation. Due to low power design, the power consumption
is less than 200 mW
with integrated GSM/GPRS module.
The device is normally mounted in a plastic roadside cabinet that protects
the hardware from mechanical and atmospheric influences. The plastic cabinet
is mounted on the solid concrete at the side of the road.
